"Arline" Hears -4-9c- That on Thursday afternoon of last week a painful accident befel Master Frank Blackmore, of Chum Creek. When removing a truck tyre from its rim, a lever slipped and struck him forcibly in the face, inflicting eye in- juries. Frank was taken to the Healesville Bush Nursing Hospital for medical aid.

Empire Day at Chum Creek FINE ROUND OF FESTIVITIES. Arrangements wre -made by the Chum Creek School Committee to cele brate Empire Day at the school last Sunday. Favoredtiy glorious sunshine, the school playground was an ideal setting for the very enjgyable sports program, including races, apple eating cgntests, etd.,. at the conclusion of which a sumptuous tea was served in the schoolroom. Afterthis had been thoroughly enjoyed the scene recalled the lines from Longfellow's .poem, "The Children's Hour":.- "Between the dark and'tho daylight, When the night is beginning to lour, Comes a pause in the ddy's occupa tion. . That is known' as the children's hour.'? And the children's hour it certainly 'wag. The first item was a song, "The Ash Grove," by, the boys, fol ed by the girls singing "Strawberry Fair." Individual Items were given by Richard McKenzie,. "The Suniy, Sunny Land of Victoria"; Edna Mc Kenzle, "White and Yellow Jonquils": while recitations were given by Mar garet Blackmore ("The Pedlar Man'!), Lindsay Exton ("The Rainbow Fall: lei"), Dorothy Eddie ("What Father Said"), Ernest Blackmore ("Making Blackberry Jam"); Joy Exton ("The Beggar Man"), and Frank Blackmore "The Iair'y's House"). Afterwards special dances for the children were held, 1nd then the floor was given over to7 the grown-ups. Songs by M, and V. Blackmore and community singing of patriotic and other numbers concluded a very pleas ant round of festivities. Bealdes an abundant supply of sweets, each child received a present. Arrangements were in 'the capable hands of the school president (Mi'. W. Exton), who takes a Sdr'y keen inter eat in the school.
